Yeah, because ASL is a fucking code for the kiddies to use to talk to each other in a movie theatre or underwater. It isn’t like ASL is very facially based. A dark movie theatre won’t effect your ability to be understood at all. Of course not.

This is so disrespectful. It isn’t a cute code, it’s a fucking language, with it’s own syntax, colloquialisms, metaphors, grammar…. It’s a language. It isn’t formed like English, and it isn’t English with ‘hand movements’. It’s like learning ANY OTHER LANGUAGE. ASL is just the North American form of sign language. It’s NOT ENGLISH. It’s NOT EASY TO LEARN.

Treating ASL like this is not helping END audism. It just makes it worse because treating it like it’s a code, or cute, or anything less than a fully fledged language makes it seem like a novelty.

And just because you can sign does not mean you understand audism any better than reading a dictionary definition. You’re still a hearing person. You’ve never experienced what audism is and you never will unless you lose your fucking hearing.

“Understand and help end audism.”

That’s like saying “understand and help end classism and/or racism by learning to speak AAVE.”

It doesn’t work that way.

This sweet girl was dropped off at my Dad’s work today, she is about 9months old based on her teeth and development. She will probably be a 35-40lb dog when fully grown and nourished. She has been very clearly abused, she’s covered in cuts and scrapes and a case of mange that needs to be treated. We cannot take her on, we have two dogs her size already and this house just can’t support her. She is a sweet dog who responds well to attention and just wants a little bit of love.
